Welcome to Year 3 and KS2!

We are delighted to welcome all of our children and families to Year 3 and the start of their exciting journey in KS2. This is a wonderful new chapter, full of opportunities to learn, grow and shine.

We are looking forward to a fantastic year ahead, filled with fun, discovery, friendship and achievement. Year 3 is a big step, and we know it is going to be an amazing year for everyone.

We can’t wait to see all the wonderful things our children will accomplish. Here’s to a happy, successful and exciting year together!

Year 3 – A Fantastic Week of Learning! 🌟

What a fantastic week we have had in Year 3! The children have worked incredibly hard, shown wonderful creativity and demonstrated just how much they have learnt this half term!

📝 English: This week, the children have been busy planning and writing their assessed pieces of writing. They used their imaginations to create their very own characters before writing detailed character descriptions. It was lovely to see the children independently applying all the writing skills they have been learning, including expanded noun phrases, ambitious vocabulary and descriptive language!

🔢 Maths: In Maths, we have been learning how to use the column method for addition and subtraction. The children have been practising setting out their calculations correctly and using their place value knowledge to solve problems. They have shown great determination when tackling new challenges!

✝️ RE: We have continued our learning linked to Black History Month by exploring the inspiring life of Saint Josephine Bakhita. The children researched her life, the challenges she faced and how her faith, courage and forgiveness made her such an inspirational figure.

🦴 Science: This week, we completed our end-of-unit assessment on skeletons. The children had the opportunity to demonstrate all the fantastic knowledge they have gained throughout the topic, including naming different bones, understanding the functions of the skeleton and exploring how animal skeletons differ.

🌟 Well done, Year 3! I am incredibly proud of all your hard work, enthusiasm and achievements this half term. You have all worked so hard and deserve a wonderful, restful half-term break!

Year 3 – Another Busy Week of Learning!

What a busy and exciting week we have had in Year 3! The children have been working incredibly hard across all subjects and have shown great enthusiasm for their learning.

English 📖
This week, the children have started writing their very own diary entries in role as the King from The King Who Banned the Dark. They have been putting all their learning into practice, using time adverbials, expanded noun phrases, past tense and descriptive language to create wonderful diary entries. It has been lovely to see their creativity and writing skills developing!

Maths 🔢
In Maths, we have continued our learning on addition and subtraction. The children have been practising adding and subtracting 1s and 10s, including crossing tens and hundreds boundaries. They have been developing their confidence and using different strategies to solve calculations.

Black History Month 🌍
This week, we have enjoyed lots of exciting cross-curricular learning to celebrate Black History Month!

• Science: We learnt all about Mae Jemison, the first Black woman to travel into space, and explored her incredible achievements.

• RE: We explored the life of Martin Luther King Jr. and his important message of equality, peace and treating everyone with dignity and respect.

• History: We learnt about Rosa Parks and how her bravery helped bring about change during the Civil Rights Movement.

The children have shown great interest in these inspirational individuals and have enjoyed discussing the importance of equality, courage and standing up for what is right.

Year 3 – Another Fantastic Week of Learning! 🌟

What a wonderful and busy week we have had in Year 3! The children have been working incredibly hard across all subjects and have produced some fantastic work.

🔢 Maths: This week, we have continued our learning on addition and subtraction. The children have been developing their skills in adding 1s, 10s and 100s, using their place value knowledge to help them solve calculations confidently.

✏️ English: We have continued exploring the features of diary entries, focusing on using time adverbials and an informal tone. The children have been identifying these features and understanding how they make diary writing more interesting and personal. Next week, the children will be putting all their learning into practice as they plan and write their very own diary entries!

🙏 RE: This week, we have been learning about St Francis of Assisi's Canticle of Creation, exploring how we can praise and thank God for the wonderful world around us. The children also reflected on the seventh day of Creation, when God rested, and produced some beautiful artwork to represent this special day.

🎨 Art – Black History Month: We have also begun our learning for Black History Month! In Art, the children explored the work of the famous artist Jean-Michel Basquiat. They used his bold, expressive style as inspiration to create their own fantastic pieces of artwork. We were so impressed with their creativity!

It has been another brilliant week filled with learning, creativity and hard work. We are incredibly proud of the effort the children continue to put into everything they do.

⭐ Another Great Week in Year 3! ⭐

We have had another fantastic and busy week in Year 3, with lots of new learning taking place across the curriculum!

➕ Maths
This week, we have finished our learning on Place Value. The children have worked incredibly hard throughout this unit and have developed their confidence when working with numbers up to 1,000. We are now moving on to our exciting new Maths topic of Addition and Subtraction!

🙏 RE
In RE, the children have continued exploring Genesis 1 and the story of how God created the world. We linked our learning to Psalm 8 and discussed how the Psalm praises God for the wonderful world He created. The children then produced some beautiful artwork inspired by Creation.

🎨💻 Art & Computing
We mixed Art and Computing together this week! The children explored how technology can be used creatively and learnt how to create their very own digital artwork. They really enjoyed experimenting with different digital tools and showing off their creativity!

📖 English
In English, we have moved on to learning about diary entries. The children have started exploring the key features of diary writing and will soon be putting themselves in the shoes of the King from The King Who Banned the Dark. They will use everything they have learnt to write a diary entry in role as the King, describing his experiences, thoughts and feelings.

Another brilliant week of learning! We are very proud of the hard work and enthusiasm the children continue to show.

🌟What a fantastic week in Year 3!🌟

We have had another brilliant and busy week filled with lots of fantastic learning!

📚 English: The children have been building on their understanding of expanded noun phrases and conjunctions to make their sentences more detailed and interesting. They have worked incredibly hard and are now getting ready to use all these skills to write a detailed character description next week!✏️

➕ Maths: We have been working hard on number lines, developing our confidence in finding and filling in missing numbers all the way up to 1,000! The children have shown some fantastic mathematical thinking and independence. 🔢

🙏 RE: We took our learning outside this week and headed to the playground for some role play! The children demonstrated their understanding of Stewardship by acting out different ways we can care for God’s Creation and the world around us. 🌍💚

🏛️ History: The role play continued in History as we travelled back to Roman Britain! The children explored the important role Boudicca played during the Roman invasion of Britain. We had some fantastic performances and brilliant historical discussions! ⚔️🛡️

It has been a great week in Year 3, and the children should be very proud of all their hard work and enthusiasm.

Year 3 Weekly Reflection

What an amazing week it has been for Year 3! I am immensely proud of all our students, who have truly embraced our behaviour routines. Our efforts have paid off, as we proudly earned our first 20 on our shield this week!

In addition to outstanding behaviour, the quality of work in our books has been remarkable. In English, the children became detectives, searching for clues around the school. They then collaborated to write about how these clues connect to our story, "The King Who Banned the Dark."

In Maths, we focused on place value and the importance of neat presentation in our books. The students showcased their skills in partitioning hundreds, tens, and ones, demonstrating a solid understanding of these concepts.

In RE, the children took a deeper dive into Genesis 1, exploring the theme of being created in God's image and likeness.

🌟 Week 2! What an Amazing Week in Year 3! 🌟

We have had another fantastic week in Year 3, and the children have continued to impress us with their hard work, enthusiasm and independence! 👏

📚 English: We have been slowly revealing our new book, building lots of excitement and curiosity! The children have now met the main character and have done some brilliant writing exploring the character’s thoughts and feelings. We have loved hearing all of their wonderful ideas!

🔢 Maths: We have been working hard on place value. The children have shown us just how independent they can be when tackling their maths work and have demonstrated some fantastic understanding. Well done, Year 3! ⭐

🙏 RE: We have been learning about the Creation story and exploring how God created the world. The children have shared some thoughtful ideas and produced some lovely work.

🎨 Art: We have been developing our shading techniques, experimenting with different ways to create light and dark tones. We have some very talented artists in Year 3!

It has been a brilliant week, and every child should feel very proud of what they have achieved. Keep up the amazing work, Year 3 — we are so proud of you! 💛

🌟 What an Amazing First Week in Year 3! 🌟

What a fantastic first week we have had in Year 3! 🎉

The children have settled in brilliantly and are already doing a great job of following our classroom routines and behaviour expectations. It has been wonderful getting to know everyone and seeing such positive attitudes towards their learning.

This week, the children have already started to show us some of their amazing maths and reading skills 📚➕, and we have also enjoyed getting creative in the afternoons, producing some beautiful artwork that the children should be very proud of! 🎨✨

We couldn’t have asked for a better start to the year. Keep up the fantastic work, Year 3!
