Welcome to Year 4!

A warm welcome to all our Year 4 children and their families as we begin the new academic year!

We are very much looking forward to an exciting and successful year ahead, filled with learning, new experiences and opportunities for the children to develop their knowledge, skills and confidence.

We hope the children have a positive, enjoyable and memorable year in Year 4 and we are looking forward to supporting them throughout the year as they continue to learn, achieve and have fun.

Wishing all our Year 4 children a wonderful start to the new school year and a very successful year ahead.

Week Beginning 19th October 2026

In Maths, we finished with addition and subtraction and we will begin with area after the Half-Term.

In History, we researched the composition of the Domesday Book.

In RE, we created a recipe to mend relationships.

In Science, we completed our final assessment about grouping and classifying living things.

We wish you a great Half-Term and we will see you back on the 9th November at 8:30 am.

Week Beginning 12th October 2026

For Black History Month, Year 4 researched the life of Josephine Bakhita in RE and drew her in Art. 

In History, we researched the lives of the slaves in Norman times. We discussed that enslaves were denied autonomy, legal rights and control over their lives, meaning they could not freely choose where to live, work or whom to associate with. We also learnt that the Domesday Book provides the evidence that there were 25,000 slaves in Norman England.

In Science, we analysed data and created a bar chart about vertebrates from scratch.

Week Beginning 5th October 2026

In Science, we completed plant classification keys and talked about the shape of various leaves.

On Thursday, the children wrote a diary entry in our English lesson from a woodcutter's perspective. In Maths, they took part in a carousel.

In ICT, the children created a slideshow about their favourite TV programmes.

In RSE, Year 4 acted out the story of Jairus and his daughter.

Week Beginning 28th September 2026

In Maths, we successfully finished the 'Place Value Assessment B' and now we will begin with 'Addition and Subtraction'. 

In English, we completed our final piece of writing: A letter. We have now started a new book called 'The Great Kapok Tree'.

In History, we analysed why Norman castles were so effective.

In RE, we researched the life of Cardinal Manning and how he helped the dock workers get fair wages. 

In Science, we grouped different types of plants and then played a game with a partner using closed questions like in the classification keys.

Week Beginning 14th September 2026

On Monday in RE, the children acted out the story of Abraham and Isaac in groups and showed their understanding and meaning of Genesis 22:1-19.

In English, we worked on expanded noun phrases and fronted adverbials to describe a place and atmosphere connected to an inspirational woman.

In History, we ordered key events of the Battle of Stamford Bridge and the Battle of Hastings.

In Science, we looked at different invertebrates and then we went out to the playground to see if we could spot any and record it with an iPad.

Week Beginning 7th September 2026

In RE, we retold Abraham's story and explained the meaning of covenant.

In History, we learnt about the 4 contenders for the throne of England in 1066. We then gave our opinion on who we thought deserved to become king and why.

In Science, we understood that vertebrate animals can be grouped in a variety of ways. After that, the children played 'Snap' with their partners using animal cards.

Week Beginning 2nd September 2026

Year 4 has made a positive start to the new academic year. The children have settled in extremely well and have approached their learning with great enthusiasm and attitude.

This week we have tested the children's times tables knowledge and completed their first place value assessment A, allowing us to identify their current understanding and areas for further development.

We have also established our expectations for Year 4 and discussed the rules and routines that all children are expected to follow throughout the year.
