Governors Information
What does a school governor do?
The purpose of School governors is to help provide the best possible education for pupils at our school. The Governing Board is responsible for the strategic management of the school and will make decisions about a wide range of issues.
The core responsibilities involved are:
- Ensuring accountability
- Acting as a ‘critical friend’ to the Head Teacher
- Monitoring and evaluating the school’s progress
- Budgetary allocation and control
- Planning for the long term future of the school
- Setting the school’s aims and values
- Appointing senior members of staff including the Head Teacher
Our Governing Board is split into small committees, Finance and General Purposes Committee; Curriculum, Standards and Send Committee; Admissions Committee.
These committees will meet separately from the Governing Board to discuss relevant issues in more detail. Discussion is then fed back at a full Governing Board meeting.
Becoming a School Governor
The majority of governors in a Catholic school such as Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Primary School are Foundation Governors, appointed in the name of the Archbishop of Westminster.
Foundation Governors have a legal duty to preserve and develop the Catholic character of the school and to ensure that the school is conducted in accordance with its Trust Deed.
Becoming a Parent Governor
Parents of pupils attending the school may elect one or more of their number to serve as a school governor.
Elected parent governors, like elected teacher governors, are full members of the governing body.
More information on becoming a school governor can be found here.
