Welcome to Year 5!

A very warm welcome to all of our Year 5 children and families!

We are delighted to welcome you to the new academic year. Ms Nobrega and I are so excited to be working with you all again, and we hope that this year brings just as much happiness, enthusiasm and success as we shared together in Year 3.

Year 5 is an exciting year filled with new challenges, engaging learning opportunities and plenty of memorable experiences. We look forward to supporting every child as they continue to grow in confidence, develop their independence and achieve their very best.

Week beginning: 12/10/26

Year 5 have had an absolutely amazing week filled with learning, creativity and celebration!

This week, we proudly celebrated Black History Month, learning about the achievements, contributions and inspiring stories of Black individuals throughout history. The children created fantastic posters to celebrate Black History Month, showcasing their creativity, knowledge and understanding. We also came together for a special assembly on Friday morning to reflect on and celebrate the importance of Black history.

There was also plenty to celebrate on the sports field! A huge well done to our Year 5 boys, who represented the school brilliantly in their football match. A few of our talented boys got on the scoresheet as we secured a fantastic 11–1 victory! What an incredible achievement!

We are so proud of all our Year 5 pupils for their enthusiasm, teamwork, creativity and hard work throughout the week.

From celebrating history to achieving success in sport, they have truly made it a week to remember!

Week beginning: 5/10/26

Year 5 have had an absolutely amazing week, and we are incredibly proud to have been awarded KS2 Class of the Week! This is a fantastic achievement and a reflection of the enthusiasm, effort and positive attitudes the children have shown throughout the week.

As part of our learning for Black History Month, we enjoyed reading a book about Mary Seacole with Mr Reid. This gave us the opportunity to learn more about her incredible life, her bravery and the important contributions she made to nursing and history.

We have also been busy practising for our class assembly, which will take place on 16th October. The children have been working hard to prepare and are looking forward to sharing their learning with the rest of the school.

On Thursday, we were delighted to welcome our school governors into Year 5. They had the opportunity to observe our learning in both Maths and English. The children impressed us with their fantastic engagement during our Maths carousel activities and their creativity during our English writing tasks. We were incredibly proud of the way they demonstrated their skills, enthusiasm and love of learning.

Week beginning: 28/9/26

It has been another fantastic week of learning in Year 5! The children have worked hard, shown great enthusiasm and continued to make excellent progress across the curriculum.

In Maths, we have been putting our skills to the test by having a go at some end-of-Year 5 assessments. This has given us a chance to see how much we have learned and identify areas that we can continue to practise and improve. The children have approached the assessments positively and should be proud of the effort they have put in.

We have also been busy rehearsing for our upcoming assembly. We have been working hard to learn our lines, practise our parts and make sure we are ready to share our learning with you. We are very excited for you to see all our hard work!

Week beginning: 21/9/26

What a fantastic week we have had in Year 5!

We were absolutely thrilled to win Class of the Week in assembly!  This was a wonderful recognition of all the hard work, positive attitudes and excellent behaviour the children have shown.

In Maths, we have now finished our Place Value unit. The children have worked hard to develop their understanding and have shown great perseverance with some challenging concepts.

In English, we have been inspired by The Promise to write some fantastic setting descriptions. The children have used ambitious vocabulary and descriptive language to create vivid settings for the reader; we have been very impressed with their writing!

In Computing, we have been learning how to use search engines accurately and effectively. We put our new skills to the test with a fun search-engine game, which the children really enjoyed!

It has been a brilliant week of learning, teamwork and achievement. 

Week beginning: 14/9/26

What a fantastic week of learning we have had in Year 5! The children have settled into life in Year 5 incredibly well and have shown a really positive attitude towards their learning.

It has been wonderful to see the progress in their work already. In English, the children have produced some excellent pieces of writing, showing great creativity and attention to detail.

In Maths, we are coming towards the end of our Place Value unit and the children have worked hard to develop their understanding and apply their knowledge confidently.

Our Science learning has been particularly exciting this week! We have been investigating air resistance and surface area, using paper aeroplanes to carry out our own experiments. The children enjoyed making and testing their aeroplanes before using their results to help us understand how surface area can affect air resistance.

Overall, it has been a fantastic week, and we are so proud of how well Year 5 have adapted and how positively they have approached their learning.

Well done, Year 5! Let’s hope this fantastic start continues!

Week beginning: 7/9/26

We have had a very productive week, balancing hard work, learning and plenty of fun across all of our subjects. The children have settled brilliantly into their new routines and have shown great enthusiasm, resilience and curiosity in their learning.

It has been wonderful to see everyone working so hard, supporting one another and embracing new challenges. We have also made sure to have lots of fun along the way, creating a positive and happy classroom environment.

We are incredibly proud of the effort Year 5 have shown this week and hope we can continue this fantastic start throughout the year. Well done, Year 5!

Week beginning: 1/9/26

What a fantastic first week we have had in Year 5!

We have spent time settling into our new routines and familiarising ourselves with what it means to be amongst the oldest children in the school. The children have embraced this new responsibility wonderfully and have begun to show great maturity and enthusiasm.

We have started our new units and have enjoyed developing our understanding of the concepts we will be exploring over the coming weeks.

We have also taken the time to understand our new roles and responsibilities within the classroom and around school. It has been lovely to see the children taking these responsibilities seriously and supporting one another.

It has been a busy and exciting start to the year, and we are incredibly proud of how well everyone has settled in. We are looking forward to a fantastic year filled with learning, challenges, new experiences and lots of happy memories!
