St. Mark- Year 4

Welcome to Spring Term Year 4. This term we will be carrying out lots of fun activities. To start the term off we will be visiting the Royal Opera House, then we have World book day and a class assembly.  In between we will be learning about Ancient Greece for History, Sound for Science and Galilee to Jerusalem for RE. With Easter approaching, there will be plenty of opportunities for the children to visit the church and be creative.

Best Wishes

Week Ending 10/01/2025 - Trip to the Royal Opera House and Mathematics Retrieval Practice. Students were presented with a Secret Mission to solve as many Area, Multiplication, and Division questions within a set amount of time. We also went to the Royal Opera House and watched a performance of Hansel and Gretel, where the students were OUTSTANDING! Fabulous efforts Year 4!

Welcome to the Year 4 class page. This year, we'll explore new topics, tackle challenges together and have lots of fun along the way. Year 4 Teacher

This week Year 4 enjoyed a yummy, scrumptious Christmas Lunch with me.

9/12/2024 - This week we explored text features evident in information reports. We identified the text structure and analysed how images and captions are used to enhance meaning in non-fiction texts.

2/12/2024 - Westminster Cathedral, Unicorn Theatre, and Exploring Area in Maths

On Thursday, Year 4 had the opportunity of having a Collective Worship being led by Year 3, and the theme was 'Advent'. Year 4 learnt so much about Advent from Year 3. This was the first time the year groups had combined to create something so special, and we hope to continue this in the future!

On Friday, our class had an amazing time learning about North America through fun and creative activities! We explored the continent’s diversity by making a beautiful Rocky Mountains landscape, learning a lively Mexican dance, and creating Native American-inspired art. It was a fantastic day filled with creativity, movement, and discovery as we celebrated the rich cultures and landscapes of North America! 🌎🎨🎶

This week, as part of our school’s 50th birthday celebration, our class took a trip back to the 2000s! We dressed up in classic 2000s fashion, explored popular games from that time, created a Facebook profile page like people did when social media was just beginning, and dove into the music that defined the decade. It was a fun and interactive way to celebrate our school’s milestone while learning about life in the early 2000s

Catholic Social Teaching - The Common Good- 16th October 2024

This week, Year 4 has been learning about the Common Good and using ICT to create pixel art posters that represent this important concept. We worked hard to design creative posters that show how we can all contribute to the well-being of our community. Here are some examples.

Black History Month - 11th October 2024

This month, we have been learning about famous Black artists. One of the artists we've focused on is Jean-Michel Basquiat, known for his bold, expressive style using vibrant colours and graffiti-like symbols. We created our own artwork inspired by Basquiat, blending abstract shapes, symbols, and bright colours, just like he did. Here are some examples of our fantastic creations!

Westminster Abbey - 2nd October

This week, Year 4 had an exciting trip to Westminster Abbey! We explored the Abbey’s amazing history and learned all about Edward the Confessor, one of the last Anglo-Saxon kings of England, who actually built the original Abbey. The trip gave everyone a real sense of the past as they walked through the stunning building and discovered the resting places of important historical figures. It was a great way to bring our history lessons to life in a fun and memorable way.

Maths - 25th September 2024

This week, we’ve been learning how to round numbers to the nearest 10. To help us understand it better, we created a large number line from 0 to 100 in the hall. We had lots of fun identifying which multiple of 10 each number was closest to. By looking at the position of each number on the line, we could easily see which multiple of 10 it was closer to.

This week, we explored the world of the Normans by creating our very own Norman shields! Using cardboard, paint, and a lot of creativity, we shields inspired by historical patterns and symbols.
