St. Matthew- Year 3
Happy New Year and welcome to the start of the Spring Term! I hope you all had a restful and joyful holiday season with your families.
As we begin this new term, I am filled with excitement and anticipation for the growth and development that we’ll see in the children’s learning. It’s always inspiring to watch them tackle new challenges, deepen their understanding, and continue to build on the skills they’ve developed so far.
This term promises to be filled with exciting opportunities and engaging lessons. To give you an idea of what’s ahead, we have updated our curriculum overview, which is attached above. It highlights the key topics and areas of focus we’ll be covering, and I encourage you to explore it to see what your child will be learning this term.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support. I look forward to working together to make this term a successful and enriching experience for the children.
Warm regards,
Mr Likosso
Year 3 Teacher
Week beginning - 10/3/25
This week, Year 3 enjoyed another wonderful week of learning across all subject areas.
On Tuesday, Years 3 and 4 went to Church and got to experience the 'Stations of the Cross', where we were able to relive Jesus' experience as he was about to be crucified. It was such an amazing experience, which we thoroughly enjoyed!
Week beginning - 3/3/25
This week was World Book Day, and Year 3 had so much fun dressing up as their favourite characters from books!
Week beginning - 24/2/25
Year 3 have had an excellent first week back from half term! In English, we started our new book 'Jemmy Button' and we partook in drama reenactments of the story. In Art, we created more Ancient Egyptian artefacts using our 'papyrus'. We also won the highest score amongst KS2 for our behaviour and attitude to learning, we all hope that this can carry on!
Week beginning - 10/2/25
Year 3 have been learning about length and measuring using centimetres, milimetres and metres. For the final lesson of Spring Term 1, we took our learning outside and used trundle wheels and metre sticks to measure items in our playground! It was such a great way to round off our learning for the term!
Week beginning - 3/2/25
This week in Year 3 has been fantastic! The students have been engaged and eager to learn, making the most of every opportunity to grow.
They've explored new concepts in various subjects, with a special focus on history.
In their art lesson, the children had a great time creating their own scrolls. They used paints to bring their designs to life, incorporating historical knowledge they’ve gained to inspire their work. This creative activity allowed them to connect the past with their artistic expression, making it a memorable and meaningful experience.

Dear Parents & Carers,
Pope Francis Jubilee 2025 – Pilgrims of Hope
As part of the celebrations for Pope Francis' Jubilee 2025, the theme for this year is ‘Pilgrims of Hope’. In light of the challenges facing the world today, such as the impacts of war, the ongoing effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, and the climate crisis, we are inspired to take an action by showing hope and solidarity.
In line with this, each class at Our Lady of Lourdes is choosing a charity to support throughout the year.
Year 3 have chosen to support RSPCA, a charity that helps animals in need, reflecting our values of compassion and care for all living creatures.
Throughout the year, we will:
- Raise awareness about the charity.
- Organise fundraising activities to support its work.
We encourage you to visit our class webpage for updates on our activities and progress. We deeply appreciate your continued support as we work together to make a meaningful difference this year.
Thank you for your support of our Jubilee 2025 Pilgrims of Hope Charity Drive!
Warm regards,
Mr Likosso and Year 3
Week beginning - 27/1/25
The fourth week of term was a productive one. Year 3 had a great week of learning across all topic areas. In English, we expanded on our vocabulary based on the book ‘Rhythm of the Rain’. They engaged in role play activities in their groups and created freeze frames based on images in the book to describe the setting.
Week beginning - 20/1/25
For the second week of term, the school partook in Maths Week, which involved adding Maths across the entire curriculum.
The children thoroughly enjoyed Thursday, as parents joined us, as we engaged in fun Maths games circuits!
We are all looking forward to the next Maths morning!
Week beginning - 13/1/25
In the first full week back, Year 3 had a lot of fun learning prepared for them. We learnt how to create presentations, and spent our computing lesson familiarising ourselves with the necessary software and researching what we were going to present to our classmates!
Week beginning - 7/1/25
We welcomed the children back from their Christmas breaks to an extremely fun trip to the Royal Opera House.
All of KS2 went to watch Hansel and Gretel. The performance was magnificent, and the children thoroughly enjoyed themselves!
Let's hope that the rest of term is as enjoyable as this trip!
Dear Parents,
I hope this message finds you well. I wanted to take a moment to share how wonderfully our first week in Year 3 at St Matthew's has gone. The children have settled in beautifully and are already showing great enthusiasm for their learning.
I am thrilled to embark on this Autumn term with such a vibrant and curious group of children. I am genuinely excited about the opportunities ahead and look forward to working closely with both your children and you, the parents, to ensure a successful and enjoyable Autumn term.
Thank you for your continued support. Let’s make this a fantastic term together!
Warm regards,
Mr. Likosso
