A very warm welcome to our Nursery!

I am Mrs Szymczak, your Class Teacher, and I am delighted to be working alongside Mrs Hopkins and Mrs Decruz this year.

We are so excited for the year ahead and look forward to creating a happy, caring and nurturing environment where every child feels safe, valued and ready to learn, play and grow.

We have lots of exciting things planned and can’t wait to see the children develop, make new friends and create lots of wonderful memories together.

We are looking forward to working closely with you and your children throughout the year.

Celebrating Josephine Baker: Creativity, Patterns and Black History Month in Nursery!

This week in Nursery, we have been celebrating the end of Black History Month by learning about the inspiring life of Josephine Baker, a famous dancer, performer and civil rights activist. The children explored her stage costumes and learnt how patterns can be used to create colourful and eye - catching designs.

We also enjoyed exploring different patterns and creating our own African - inspired necklaces using paper plates. The children carefully selected colours, repeated patterns and decorated their creations.

To bring our learning to life, the children designed their own stage costumes, using their imaginations to create wonderful and unique designs inspired by Josephine Baker.

We wish all our families a lovely and restful half - term break!

Dream Big, Reach for the Stars!

This week in Nursery, we celebrated Black History Month by learning about the inspiring astronaut Mae Jemison through the story Mae Jemison: Little People, Big Dreams. We discovered how Mae followed her dreams and showed determination to become the first Black woman to travel into space. The children shared their own hopes and aspirations through our Dream Clouds activity, thinking about what they would like to be when they grow up. We also explored 2D shapes. We looked for shapes in everyday objects and linked our learning to Mae’s exciting space adventures. The children then used different 2D and 3D shapes to design and create their very own rockets, developing their creativity and shape recognition along the way!

Celebrating Black History Month: Bob Marley

This week in Nursery, we learnt about Bob Marley, the famous Jamaican singer, through the story Every Little Thing by Cedella Marley. We chose to learn about Bob Marley during Black History Month because he used his music to spread messages of love, peace, unity and freedom. Through his songs, he encouraged people to stand together, treat one another with kindness and hope for a better world. His music continues to inspire people around the world today.

We listened to his song Three Little Birds and joined in with its lovely, reassuring message, “Every little thing is gonna be alright.”

The children enjoyed listening and moving to the music, making their own music marks and creating paper plate guitars. We also explored different feelings and emotions and took part in fun bird activities to develop our fine motor skills.

In Maths, we practised counting musical instruments using numbers 1, 2 and 3. The children also explored comparing groups, finding one more and talking about which group had more or fewer objects.

It has been a lovely week full of music, stories and creativity. The children enjoyed learning about Bob Marley, exploring different ways to express themselves and celebrating Black History Month together. Through his life and music, we began to explore important messages of love, peace, freedom and kindness, helping the children understand how music can bring people together.

Celebrating St. Francis Day in Nursery 🐾

We had a wonderful time celebrating St. Francis Day, our class patron, in the nursery!

The children came dressed in their own clothes and looked absolutely gorgeous. Throughout the day, we learnt all about St. Francis of Assisi, who is the patron saint of animals and nature, and talked about how he cared for and loved God’s beautiful creation.

We enjoyed a nature walk, exploring the world around us and noticing the plants, trees and wildlife. The children also had great fun baking animal -shaped biscuits and creating beautiful St. Francis and animal-themed crafts.

Alongside these activities, we took part in many other fun learning experiences linked to our saint. It was a lovely day filled with exploring, creating, baking and learning, while helping the children to develop a greater appreciation for animals and the natural world.

A big well done to all our wonderful children for making St. Francis Day such a special and memorable celebration! 🌿🐦🦋🐾

Stories, Sorting and Creativity

This week, we continued exploring the story Owl Babies. The children enjoyed listening to the story, using different voices for the baby owls and creating a simple story map to talk about the beginning, middle and end. We also explored sorting and comparing objects by colour, size and shape, discussing how they were the same or different. In our creative activities, the children developed their mark - making skills using sticks and made lovely owl crafts using forks to paint and leaves to create the owl’s features.

Our Week with Owl Babies

This week, we enjoyed the story ‘Owl Babies’. We talked about the baby owls, joined in with the repeated phrases and explored how they felt when their mummy returned.

We also practised our counting skills by counting the owls and feeding them the correct number of food items. The children enjoyed making owl family pictures while developing their language, maths and fine motor skills.

Discovering All About Me

What a wonderful first full week we have had in Nursery! The children have been enjoying our new topic, “All About Me,” and learning more about themselves and their friends.

We have talked about our similarities and differences, explored our facial features using mirrors, and shared what we like about ourselves. We enjoyed listening to the story What I Like About Me and singing songs and rhymes such as “Heads, Shoulders, Knees and Toes.”

The children also created their own self-portraits using paint and a variety of craft materials, showing lots of creativity and imagination.

We have been learning to count through fun songs such as “Five Little Ducks” and enjoying our learning through singing, talking and play.

It has been a fantastic first full week, and we are so proud of how well the children are settling in! 💕

Our First Day in Nursery!

What a lovely first day we have had! The children enjoyed exploring their new surroundings, meeting their teachers and making new friends. They have settled in really well and are already becoming familiar with the nursery environment and daily routines.

It has been wonderful to see so many happy faces, confident interactions and exciting moments of play. We are very proud of how well everyone has started their Nursery journey!
