Week beginning 12th October 2026. This week the children worked in pairs to annotate a picture of Rosa Parks with descriptive language. Using this they were able to write a character description. As our writing outcome is to write a biography, the children used different coloured pencils and a key to identify the features of a biography. In Art, the children created a portrait of Rosa Parks using symbolic images in the background.
Week beginning 5th October 2026. This week we had Maths morning with a focus of practical activities. In groups of 5 or 6, the children took part in 5 different activities. In one group they used multi links to create 3D shapes and then looking at SATs questions they solved different word problems about volume. In another group they used money and place value counters to solve SATs based money problems. The third activity was solving SATs word problems using base ten and place value counters. Using pizza bases and toppings the children had to work out different fraction challenges. A final activity was based on measuring with scales and jugs. Using their measuring skills, the children baked a cake.
Week beginning 28th September 2026. This week, in English, the children had a cut up persuasive letter which they had to put back together. This activity was used to teach the children about the features of persuasive letters. In RE, we used the bibles to read and complete work around the Gospel: John 1. The children learnt about the word and the importance of light. In Art, we used black paper to create silhouettes of buildings during the Blitz. We then added these buildings to our paintings from last week. We also visited the prayer garden during our collective worship.
Week beginning 21st September 2026. This week Year 6 had their first trip of the year. We visited The National Army Museum where we attended a workshop about the Blitz. The children were able to dress up and see some artefacts from WW2. We even had a go in a tank. As a follow up, in Art we used everything we learnt about the blitz from the workshop to create a scene. Currently, we have painted our backgrounds using red, orange, yelllow, white and black to create different fiery tones and shades.
Week beginning 14th September. This week in Art, Year 6 used water colours to copy pictures of the natural world. The techniques they were practising were wet on wet and wet on dry. In Computing, the children were using scratch to understand the importance of a secure password.
Week beginning 7th September 2026. This week the children have enjoyed hands on learning in Maths. They used place value counters and base 10s to partition numbers up to 7 digit. In Science, we took our learning outdoors as we went looking for different living organisms. In English, the children worked in groups to predict what their new English focus book for this term will be about. We had instrumental music playing and a suitcase with various items. In Art, we compared two different artist who focus on their natural world and we started to create a scrap book.
Week beginning 2nd September 2026. Year 6 have settled well back into school. This week we paid tribute and did lots of activities in memory of the tragedy our school community faced recently. We did work around our zones of regulations and then planned and designed a sensory garden to help children in our school regulate their emotions and place for them to visit if they needed quiet time.
