Reception Class St. Bernadette

What a delight it was to have Michael De Souza, the author of Rastamouse, visit our classroom.

You may have noticed some new plant life at our Nursery entrance. We had lots of fun learning about how to care for plants.

Reception were buzzing with excitement today. The police came to visit and share information with us about the job of a police officer. We even got to sit in a police car!

Our beautiful new outdoor resources have arrived! As you can see, the children are having lots of fun.

We have been reading Stanley’s Stick. We went to search for some sticks to make our very own creations.

Reception and Nursery had an amazing trip to Odds Farm. We saw lots of farm animals and had fun on the playground.

Collective worship is a very important part of our school life. It allows the children time to plan, pray and reflect.

Paige Turner came to visit Reception today. She needed Receptions help to create some magical spells for a story.

Many children may have mentioned Fred at home. Fred the Frog is part of our new phonics scheme and helps the children to blend sounds. He is very popular with all the children.

Reception have been busy learning their number bonds to 5. They all have worked incredibly hard.

In RE, we learned that God and Jesus are like a circle because they have no beginning or end. We cut, traced, drew and coloured circles of different sizes.

Supertato: Run Veggies Run is the story we are reading this week. We pretended that we were Supertato and saved the veggies from the Evil Pea.

We cut and blended our fruit to making delicious smoothies which we really enjoyed!

It was an extra exciting day today! We went to a supermarket with a shopping list to buy some different healthy fruits.

We have been learning about how God is all around us. We made our own telescopes and went on a God hunt to see where He was in our playground. Where do you think we found Him?

Another fun, busy day in Reception having fun learning.

Our new comfy furniture arrived for our book corner!

My name is Mr. McCarthy and I will be the class teacher of Reception this year alongside Ms. Manesh and Ms. Monika. We are delighted to welcome all the children to school to continue making learning a fun and enjoyable experience that can be used both inside and outside of the classroom. We look forward to a productive and rewarding school term.

It is getting closer and closer to the birth of baby Jesus! We created a story map to tell the story of the Nativity.

After a lot of practice, we had fun performing ‘A Wriggly Nativity’ for our adults at home.

We had lots of fun making our Christmas hats for our delicious Christmas dinner.

Reception made their own Advent wreaths to countdown to the birth of baby Jesus.

We recently had a visit from local police officers who spoke about the ways and importance of keeping safe.

Reception have been exploring number bonds to 5. They have been finding different ways to represent a total quantity of 5.

Reception were delighted with the recent frosty mornings. Their natural instinct to explore and discover brought lots of smiles throughout the day.

There was a lot of excitement in EYFS recently as our outdoor resources having started to arrive! They are further discovering their love of reading in our new reading hut. Watch this space for more exciting updates!

It is amazing to see the children's fine motor skills progress in such a short space of time while having fun learning

Advent is a time where we prepare for the birth of baby Jesus. Reception have been helping to prepare for this by writing a shopping list!

Parents evening will take place in the Reception classroom on Monday 22nd November 2021. Please book a time slot on Tucasi.

Year 4 came to read to Reception Friday afternoon. It was lovely to watch Reception engrossed in the stories!

Reception collaborated to build a tower this week. Suddenly, it fell! I am sure you can see in the photos what a shock this was! They worked together to build a tower again and it is a joy to see their resilience at this age.

Reception have been reading Harry and his Dinosaurs Go to School. Dino the Explorer left a mysterious egg in our classroom which finally hatched to reveal our very own dinosaur! They were all so excited! The class voted to name him Chase the Dinosaur. Chase has been a little bit mischievous and keeps going missing. However, Reception are excellent detectives and have enjoyed finding where he is hiding.

Another busy week in Reception! It has been such a joy to watch everyone have fun learning and progress in such a short space of time.

Year 6 have been busy helping to design a new Nursery and Reception playground! Its an exciting time for everyone!
