Year One has some exciting focuses this term, which can be found under 'SPRING' in our curriculum overview.

You will also find a super list of recommended reads and our weekly time table.

Week 6 (Monday 9/2 - Friday 13/2)

Half term done and dusted!

Year One had a busy term and worked hard to learn new things every day.

This and last week, we learnt all about a very special ‘e’ that bosses other vowels around.

Check out our bossy ‘e’ that we made!

After spending the term reading ‘The Adventures of Egg Box Dragon’ we figured it was only right to make our own!

Year One worked together to create a big dragon for our classroom!

I hope you all have a wonderful break and come back ready for even more learning!

We have some very exciting topics coming up.

In Geography, we are learning all about Oceans and Seas, and in Science we are looking at Holidays! I can’t wait!

I look forward to seeing you all in a week- enjoy the break!

Week 5 (Monday 2/2 - Friday 7/2)

This was a big week!

This week, Year One had their Castle Assembly. Thank you so much to those who were able to come and see them perform. I am sure you are all so proud.

Along with our assembly, we had a really fun day learning all about people who lived and worked in castles. We learnt about cooks, gardeners, carpenters, the King and Queen, and more… but the class favourite was the Knights!

Year One learnt all about the qualities needed to become an honourable knight. Check out some pictures of our shields and certificates!

With half term coming up, have a wonderful last week!

Week 3 (Monday 19/1 - Friday 23/1)

Dear parents and carers,

Week 3 already done!

In maths we revised using our 'greater than,' 'less than, and 'equals' symbols to compare numbers to 20. This was a topic they had done prior to me starting, so they really impressed me here!

In English we have been working hard at perfecting our sentence structure and continuing to use adjectives to make our writing exciting.

In RE we are learning about the Good News and how to share it.

In Science we learnt some big kid terms - carnivore, herbivore, and omnivore. Year 1 are using these terms to describe the eating habits of animals living in Polar Places

In History we looked at houses over time! From castles to modern flats. And of course, we are continuing our assembly practice.

Check out some pictures of our awesome maths!

Get ready for week 4!

Kind regards,

Miss Tonner

Week 1 (Tuesday 6/1 - Friday 9/1)

Dear parents and carers,

We have had a busy first week back!

Year one has been working hard and more importantly, working together!

In maths we have been reviewing our number bonds to ten, and starting to look at modelling numbers to 20 using 'tens' and 'ones.'

We have been using our blocks to model this number and ensure we are confident in these areas.

In English we have started our new story, 'The Adventures of Egg Box Dragon!' Here, we have been working on retelling the story and forming opinions.

In RE we have learnt about the 'Epiphany.'

Year one has practiced the retelling of this story through some wonderful role play! Here, we have also been discussing why each and every one of us are special to God.

In Science we are looking at Polar Places! Year one are learning that London isn't nearly as cold as some of the places we will look into this term!

In History we have started our topic on castles! This week we got to build are own castles after seeing some cool pictures of castles in the UK!

This will also be the topic of our assembly that is coming up in early February.

In Art we have learnt about primary and secondary colours - including how to mix them!

Take a look at some photos of our awesome work!

Have an excellent weekend.
I'm sure year one are looking forward to another week of busy!

Kind regards,

Miss Tonner

Welcome to Year One!

I am delighted to be teaching Year One this year.  The start of Key Stage One will build on previous learning from pupils' time in EYFS.  Our lessons will include hands-on, fun learning experiences and will prepare pupils for their on-going journey through school.

I am joined by Miss Duncan, who will be working along side me to support the class.

Miss Sadie

Thank you so much to everyone who came to the year 1 curriculum meeting! Please find the slideshow from today and the key documents mentioned. Reminder that you can access our google classroom using the code on the slides.

Week ending 26/09 - Another great week. We have been working on our number fluency still finding 1 more and 1 less.

Week ending 19/09 - We are really starting to settle into our routines now and I am so impressed. This week we have been working on our number fluency and have written our poems based on stars so a very busy week!

Week ending 12/09 - Our first full week and we are settling in so well. This week we have been exploring counting using lots of different resources and different ways of sorting these objects.

Week 1! Week ending 5th September - What an incredible first week! I am so proud of the entire class for how well they have moved up and cannot wait to see how we continue to grow over the year.
