Hello and welcome back to Reception!

It has been a joy to watch the progress children have been making in school. We are all looking forward to another fun, exciting and productive term.

Keep up to date here on our class page. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.

Mr. McCarthy.

We had a lot fun during the maths week, we played number treasure hunt and found numbers all the way up to 100 !

We will start as we mean to go on. Welcoming the new year by reading with our Year 6 buddies!

Hello and Welcome to Reception!

My name is Mr. McCarthy and I will be the class teacher of Reception this year alongside Ms. Manesh, Ms. Monika and Mrs. De Cruz. We are delighted to welcome all the children to school to continue making learning a fun and enjoyable experience that can be used both inside and outside of the classroom. We look forward to a productive and rewarding school term.

Please see below a link to your child's learning experiences over the course of this academic year.

Christmas lunch! Today we all wore our Christmas jumpers to school, had a special Christmas lunch and there was a VERY special visitor. Can you guess who it was?

We were delighted to share our Nativity with the whole school this week. We cannot wait to share it with all the parents and adults on Monday.

Reception have been learning about the Advent Wreath. We learned that it is used to countdown to the birth of Jesus. One candle is lit every week. We made our own Advent Wreaths.

We had our biggest turn out yet! Thank you to all the adults for attending our recent Stay and Read session.

Ed is back! Ed had a fantastic week filled with activities and this was shared by his friend for the week. All the children had lots of questions and we look forward to seeing what else Ed will get up to!

Our buddy system with Year 6 continues! All children in Reception are buzzing with excitement on a Friday when their buddy comes to read with them.

Each Friday, EYFS will host Stay and Play/Read sessions from 8:45-9:15am. Parents and guardians are welcomed into the classroom to play and read with the children. As you can see, our first week was a great success!

Meet Ed the Elephant, our class Mascot! Each week one child will take Ed home and complete some work about what they did with Ed that week. Ed was a little bit nervous making his way into school on his first day but cannot wait to meet all the children! Watch this space!

We visited our new chapel for the first time for our class liturgy. We are really exciting to have this space to pray, reflect and be with God.

During other faith week, we have been learning about Judaism. We are comparing what makes us different and special.

In preparation for our visit from Bishop John Sherrington, we have been learning about our class Saint. Saint Bernadette is the patron Saint of Shepherds. We made some sheep to present to Bishop John Sherrington during mass.

Speaking and listening is a very important part of daily life in Reception. As children develop speaking and listening skills, they're building the foundations for English and learning. They are learning key skills like how to express themselves and make friends. This week, children were communicating with one another during construction tasks. Then children had the opportunity to share what they created with the class during our daily news session and ask their friends questions.

Good afternoon all,

On Friday, we will have our Whole School Cultural Assembly in the morning. Tickets are on a first come, first serve basis and can be provided by the office. Children can come to school in their cultural dress on Friday and remain in this for the school day.

Kind regards,

Mr. McCarthy

This month Reception have been reading the book ‘Riley Can Be Anything’ by Black British Author Davina Hamilton. In this story, Riley does not know what he would like to be when he is older. His big cousin Joe helps Riley to see that he can be anything he chooses to be! This uplifting story has allowed the children in Reception to imagine what they would like to be in the future. They have enjoyed thinking about the different careers and exploring them through play.

Reception have been busy this week learning how to compare size and quantity. They have been using vocabulary such as smaller, bigger and the same. As you can see, they had fun creating a variety of appropriately sized shelters for different animals.

RE allows time for everyone to reflect and think about the impact God has on our daily lives. Reception are incredibly respectful during whole class worship. We have also been having fun learning about the story of Noah’s Ark.

Where is God? Everywhere! Reception made their own telescopes before going around the playground looking for God.

What a pleasure it was to see our Reception and Year 6 Buddy system begin. Every child was allocated a buddy for the year. They will have their lunch and read with them each Friday as well as being paired up with their buddy for other events throughout the year.

Reception have been busy settling in to school life. Although it has been a short period of time, it is amazing to see the progress every child has made. They have quickly gotten used to the daily routine and have loved getting reacquainted with old friends and making new ones. As you can see, they are really enjoying their time in Reception.
