St Peter Year 1

Welcome to St Peter's

Year One Class

Our Lady guides  us as we have fun learning together,

aiming to be the best that we can be

Hello Parents,

My name is Heather Paulson and I am sharing teaching Year One this year with Mrs Butler who you all already know very well. I have lots of experience of teaching Infant children in Early Years and am really looking forward to teaching your children. I also look forward to meeting you all very soon. Please speak to me at the beginning or end of the day if you have any minor concern about your child or make an appointment to speak to me after school if you would need more time. Mrs Butler and myself are planning some really great learning activities for your children this term so please do keep checking this page to share them with us.

Our model world that we created for our new IPC topic.

Welcome back to the summer term! Please read the curriculum letter attached for information about the term ahead of us.

We've been to looking at maps and trying to find places where people might go on holiday.

IPC Entry Point

Our new IPC topic is called 'Hooray! Let's go on holiday!" We had lots of fun dressing up in our summer outfits for our picnic in the sun.

Hooray, Let's Go on Holiday!

Miss Papier has been teaching us about the sun and how the earths position creates seasons. As it is almost summer we thought it would be a good idea to make a visor to protect our eyes from the bright sun.

Don't they look beautiful?

Our favourite characters came alive in Year 1 as we celebrated World Book Day.

From A to B - For Our IPC 'Entry Point' we made paper airplanes and measured whose flew the furthest and whose managed to land beside the target.

Welcome back to a new term!

Ms Duncan and myself are looking forward to working with the class on exciting new topics this term.

We will be sending out  a curriculum letter this week with your child with further details of how you can support your children at home.

P.E. will continue to happen on Wednesday afternoons so please make sure children bring their P.E kits to school as soon as possible

We've been reading a story called 'Dinosaurs in the Supermarket'... but perhaps those naughty dinosaurs have come to our school as well!

We think there may have been a dinosaur in the classroom!

We are learning about non-fiction texts and writing facts about dinosaurs.

Our Exit Point to our IPC topic:   Let's Celebrate!

We had a Christmas party for our exit point. We celebrated the end of our first term by playing party games, giving Christmas cards, eating yummy food, wearing Christmas hats and rock'n around the Christmas tree.

Let's Celebrate!

We have been learning about symmetry by folding our beautiful Christmas paintings in half!

Year 1 Class Assembly

'The Little Red Hen'

Wednesday 12th November

Welcome to St. Peters class! Ms Duncan and myself are very much looking forward to an exciting and successful year ahead.

Thank you to all the parents who attended the curriculum meeting. Any parents who were unable to attend should have received the handouts that explain the children's targets for this year. If you have any queries please don't hesitate to make an appointment with me, Miss McDowell, after school.

Please watch this space for information and photographs of what we have been learning about in Year 1.

Please remember that this term's R.E. topic is 'Beginning with the Church', with this in mind, it would be lovely if children could bring in and share any photos of baptisms or items relating to a baptism.

As promised, there is a link below showing the pure sounds of the phonetic alphabet we teach to help with reading and writing. It is important to encourage children to sound out and blend together the graphemes (letters) in words that they don't know using this method. The actions shown are used to help children remember the different phonemes (sounds) and how they are written.

Below is a list of websites with fun and educational games that you can play with your child at home.
