Welcome back to Spring Term, we hope you had a lovely Christmas and a restful break. We look forward to learning about our new IPC topic. We are really excited to be in our new building and getting settled into our new classroom.

Science Week

For Science Week we had a workshop on forensic science. We investigated the crime scene and had to find out who had committed a crime. We had to find fingerprints and match it to the suspects. We used magnifying glasses and tweezers to make sure we did not contaminate the evidence. We had lots of fun, and we found the suspect!

We had a great start to Science Week, we have carried out two investigations, one testing different materials that would be suitable as a thermal insulator in the Antarctica. We put warm water in containers and covered it with different materials in the freezer.

The second investigation we did was testing which materials were waterproof. We then investigated if we added wax crayon would it make a difference and make it waterproof.

World Book Day

We celebrated World Book Day by dressing up in our favourite characters. We also had the pleasure of Year 4 joining us and reading with us.
                               First Aid
We had a First Aid workshop, we learnt about how to help people stay alive and what to do in an emergency. We learnt to do CPR on the dummies and what we would in real life. We also looked at a defibrillator.

Our topic this half term in IPC is called  'The circus is coming to town' . For our exit point we put on a circus show. The pictures show our assembly and our costumes.

This half term our topic for RE is People of Prayer. In this topic we have been looking at the Beatitudes and the Sermon on the  Mount. We looked at Jesus taught people and discussed what the teaching meant for us to follow.
In maths, we have been learning to tell the time. We learnt to tell the time to 5 minute intervals and draw the time.
In computing, we have been learning about coding, and making the characters move and change the background. Also, we learnt how to put a timer and which direction to make our characters move.

In RE, we have been learning about the Feast of Epiphany. We watched the story about the Three Wise Men going to see Jesus and the gifts they brought. We acted out the story, and the characters we played were: King Herod, the  Three Wise Men and the angel.

In Science we have started a new topic called living things. In this lesson we used our classification skills to classify which objects were dead, alive and never alive. We put them into the different groups and explained why we put those into the different groups.

In Literacy, we have begun to read a new book called "Mr Wolf's Pancakes". We read the story and acted out the story. It was fun playing the different characters, we used different expressions to show feelings.

In Science we got to make food for birds, we put it outside to see how long it would take for the birds to eat it.

We are excited to see which one of ours is eaten first. We used bird seeds, raisins and lard. We had lots of fun making bird food for the birds.

Toys Workshop

In IPC our topic is toys, we got to pretend to be toys and when the teacher was a shopkeeper we had to find a new place to hide, and trick the shopkeeper in which toys had moved. We had fun lying still and waking up as different toys.

IN PE, we have been learning about dance. We had to move in time of the music, we had to move quickly when the music was fast and we moved slow when the music was slow.

In science we looked at the ingredients of a cottage pie and had to sort the ingredients into the sources of food. We had fun finding out what went into a cottage pie and which category the ingredients belonged to.

Religious Studies

This week in RE, we have been learning about Judaism. We went on a trip to visit the Synagogue. The children had lots of fun looking at Torahs and learning about the content in the Torah. The children learnt the stories were similar to the Bible.

The teachers were impressed with our knowledge about the Synagogue.

In science we have been looking a the topic 'Habitats'. We have had fun going to the pond area and to see what living things live in the pond. We also looked at what living things live in trees and in the grass. We so lots of minibeasts hiding under the stones!

We had fun asking some of the staff questions about their roles in the school. They told us what they enjoyed doing the most and why they chose to work in a school.

Everyone said they liked working at Our Lady of Lourdes.

In RE  our topic for this half term is 'In The Beginning'. Year 2 have been looking at Creation story. This week we looked at Genesis Part 2, pupils enjoyed reading and learning about the story. They had lots of fun acting out the story.

This week in maths we have been looking at money. We got to play shopkeepers and customers. Some of us were customers and got to spend money and some of us were shopkeepers. Those who were shopkeepers wrote the receipt out and gave us our change. We definitely made sure we did not forget our change, so we could go buy more items. We had so much fun.

IPC Entry Point

We had fun last week dressing up as what we would want to be older. We dressed as doctors, nurses, lawyers, teachers and many other professions. We really enjoyed dressing up.

In literacy we have been reading a book called Amazing Grace. In the story Grace likes to use her imagination and act out different characters. We enjoyed acting out the different characters pretended to be by Grace. We were doctors, patients, Joan of Arc, pirates, spiders and horses.  We loved acting out the different characters Grace played.
