We have been learning about changing the pitch of an instrument. We made kazoos out of straws and were then able to change the pitch of the sound by shortening the straw.

First lesson on sound
On post it notes, the children wrote questions about sound they'd like to find the answer to. We went through some of the questions today and will read through them at the end of our project to see if we have found the answers to all of them.
National Gallery trip
The children enjoyed an educational and art-filled day at the National Gallery. We found the impressionist painters and took the time to copy some of the paintings there - focusing on Monet, of course. We also looked at paintings from different era's and in different styles such as Van Gogh, Rembrandt and Canaletto.
Music lesson
Music lesson
Recently the children have been learning to sing in rounds. Aren't they sounding wonderful?!
Science experiment
We are learning about teeth. The children are experimenting to find out how much different liquids damage the enamel on teeth. Results to follow!
May is the month of Mary
Y4 worship assembly
Julia, Malachi, Thomas, Syriel, Angelica and Fiona lead this Year 4 assembly. They focused on Jesus as the shepherd.
Basketball
The children have begun a 10-week course in basketball. They will learn all the basic skills a basketball player needs, increase their fitness and have fun at the same time!
Lent prayer table
Easter Bonnet Parade
Acting parts of the Bible
Our most recent visit from Br Alejandro saw the children using their creative sides! In groups they acted out important parts of the Bible that will come up during the Lenten celebrations. They had lots of fun!
We were fortunate enough to have a visit from the Science Dome and a Professor of astronomy. She took half of the class inside to learn about our view of the night sky and learn how the Ancient Egyptians use it to structure their lives. The second half of the class learnt about our Galaxy, the Milky Way, and our nearest planets and stars. We had a wonderful time because the 360 view inside is spectacular! (The photos inside the dome didn't come out.)
World Book Day
We had such a fun World Book day and were able to read with year 1, a real treat!
Smoothie Bike
We were visited by the smoothie bike today. We learnt about the information on packaging, the different vitamins in fruits and how to make a smoothie!
Class debate
We held a class debate based on some key ideas in our Michael Morpurgo book Why the Whales Came. There excellent arguments put forward, careful use of language and even some heckling!
Roots to Foods
The school was visited by the wonderful Darren from Roots to Food. He taught the children many new cookery skills which they greatly enjoyed using to cook their own chicken chow mein!
Year 3/4 Fashion Show
We had so much fun putting on our own fashion show for all the parents that were able to come to watch. Designing and making our own clothes was really interesting too!
Visit from Brother Alejandro
Team working in literacy
The children worked in teams to order newspaper reports, ready to write their own this week. Can you see a topical news report you recognise?
Class reading!
We have wonderful class reading sessions every day. The children enjoy reading the text aloud and testing their knowledge with tricky questions!
Poetry Performances
Children performed the poems they had chosen for their homework! Expressive reading was what we were looking for and I was very impressed!
I took photos and videos of all children who shared their poem with the class. Well done for performing!

The Science Museum
Friction
Friction
Centrifugal force
We had a wonderful time at the Science Museum and learnt so much through experimenting!
We welcome Advent with a purple advent table and notes to God.
Bicarbonate of soda and vinegar reactions
Brave Janina!
Popping candy mixture.
We could hear the popping candy in the reaction.
Tomato sauce and vinegar made a slow reaction.
We wanted to experiment with different recipes to find the most exciting reaction. The children made predictions about which ingredients would react most violently together. While our mentos and coke experiment was a flop, the classic bicarbonate of soda and vinegar was exciting!
Science - Changes of State
Experimenting with carbonated drinks was so fun! The bubbles in the lemonade buoyed the raisins to the top of the bottle, when usually they would have sunk. When the raisin broke the surface some of the bubbles popped which meant there was nothing keeping the raisin up. So when enough bubbles popped, the raisin would sink back down to the bottom... unless more bubbles met it on their way to the surface!
Maths - Fractions and Decimals
Plotting the equivalent decimal.
Plotting the equivalent decimal.
Plotting the equivalent decimal.
The children physically plotted decimals on our fraction number line. This helps them to visualise see the equivalent numbers together.
Inventions that Changed the World - children's own inventions.
Keanu invented a new type of goggles.
Liam's eagle flies using helium balloons!
Victoria invented a new type of boat.
Sean's Selfie Taker - the whole class enjoyed it!
All of the children designed their own invention and realised their vision using recyclables brought in from home.
Science - Changes of State
Fortune ice cubes was a fun way to study the changes of state possible for water. The children worked hard to melt their ice, recording the effect of their efforts along the way. Their fortunes were well-deserved!
Maths - Fractions and Decimals
Creating their own fraction walls.
Creating their own fraction walls.
Creating their own fraction walls.
The children worked on creating their own fraction walls out of strips of paper to help them visualise equivalent fractions. For example: 1/2 = 2/4 = 3/6 = 4/8 and so on.
Science-Moving particles-Solids, liquids and gases
The children behaved as solid particles. They warmed up and moved around like liquids and they heated up and finally evaporated as a gas. They had great fun pretending to be gas particles!
Cultural Week
As part of the IPC topic we have been exploring Our Lady of Lourdes School community from the past. An ex-pupil took us on a journey through a time machine. Do you recognise her? We wrote about our experiences.
Making and Using Classification Keys
In science, we are looking at groupingliving things so we decided to group some children in our class using classification keys on a flow chart.
Author Visit
We are reading Jake Atlas and the Tomb of the Emerald Snake as part of our English novel. The author, Rob Lloyd Jones, came to visit us and talk to us about fantasy story writing!
