Year 6 Curriculum for 2016-2017

Welcome to the Year 6- St John Class Page. My name is Mr Rodney and I am the class teacher: this is my third year teaching at Our Lady of Lourdes. Working alongside me is our TA, Mrs O'Neill; we are both excited for the summer term and the challenges that await.

The children have recently taken their SAT's. All children tried their best and showed confidence and maturity throughout the week of examinations. We should all be very proud of them.

Year 6 will be going on their JCA residential at Condover Hall in Shropshire. This will be a final chance for the children to bond and make some final Our Lady of Lourdes memories.

As a team,  Mrs O'Neill and I are dedicated to your children's well-being and academic progress. Please check back regularly to see the learning take place in our class, updates, successes, website links and more.

Year 6 St John's have had a brilliant "World Book Day". The children enjoyed going to reception class and reading with the younger children. Do you like our costumes?

We have been using the "Beast Quest" game app on the ipads to enhance our creative writing.

For our Science topic "Classifying living things" we have been making our own classification keys to group living things in a certain habitat

We have been painting and decorating our very own Christmas baubles for the Christmas fayre

As we prepare for Advent, Year 6 have been learning about the 'O' Antiphons creating their own actions and performing these special prayers.

Year 6 have been focusing on the gorgon Medusa in their art lessons. This links to their current IPC topic "Myths and Legends".

In Maths, we have been exploring 3D shapes and looking at the different nets you can make for a cube

St John's welcomed Deacon Julio into our classroom who taught and led us in Praying the Rosary.

We have been digitally creative by editing films showing the world what computing looks like at our school!

Year 6 incorporated dance into their big write- recording their own unique dance moves onto the ipads and then writing about them in class.

Year 6 visited Bentley Priory Museum this week, learning about the Battle of Britain. Children took part in a hands-on workshop plotting the co-ordinates of the battle. We then looked around the museum learning about the men and women of the RAF who fought in WW2.
