Welcome to the Summer Term
This term is a very exciting but important term for your children. We are preparing them for that big transition into Year One. Please continue to support your child at home with their homework and reading but especially by working on their independence. Year One will be a big step for them. If we all work together we will make sure they are ready for it, so that it is as enjoyable as possible for them!
ROAD SAFETY WEEK: Year 5 wrote and illustrated picture books to teach us all the rules of the road ... ask us what we learnt!
Science Week: We were all very excited to learn about Dinosaurs and enter the dome where we got to see Dinosaur videos!
Our IPC topic this term is 'Shopping'. We have set up a 'Toy Shop' and 'Book Shop' in our classroom where the children enjoy role playing and acting out different scenarios. Take a look at all the lovely toys the children made at home. Thanks to all the Mums and Dads that helped, although most of the children have assured me they made them all by themselves!
We made butter!
We talked about butter and where we think it comes from. Below is a picture of our ideas:
We then learnt about how butter is made.By just shaking cream(using your strong hands), you can make butter!
We enjoyed watching it turn from a liquid to a thicker substance and then finally butter. Our favourite part was tasting it on yummy crackers!
We hope you had a lovely Christmas and a very happy new year to you all!
We started the new year on a very positive note with 'Fun Fit Friday'. The children enjoyed making a healthy meal, learning about healthy foods and taking part in a fitness workout.
You can see below they all had fun learning!
In Literacy we were learning about the story 'Goldilocks and the Three Bears'. We decided it would be a good idea for Goldilocks to make porridge for the bears to apologise for eating theirs. We learnt how to make porridge and wrote the instructions in our Literacy books. We enjoyed making the porridge, especially eating it!
We had a visitor in our classroom. When we came back from play time we noticed paw prints on the ground, scratches on the door and our classroom was a mess. We decided to go on a bear hunt. We went through the grass, mud, river, forest and snowstorm.
Finally, we found the bear in its cave.
Some of us got very scared!
In Maths we were learning about 2D shapes. We went on a shape hunt around the school and found lots of different shapes.
Dough disco involves moulding play dough in time to music and performing different actions such as rolling it into a ball, flattening it, putting each individual finger into the dough, rolling it into a sausage and squeezing it.
This activity helps to strengthen children's fine motor muscles to enable them to develop their pencil grip which in turn will help to develop their writing skills. But most of all it's fun!

Welcome to Reception!
My name is Ms Padden and working alongside me in Reception is Mrs Szymczak. We are both very excited about the year ahead!
We know that starting school is a big step so we want to make it as easy for your children as possible. For the first half term our aim is to create a calm, friendly and fun environment to ensure all the children settle well.
We will keep you posted on this to show you all the exciting activities we do in class and for you to see how happy your little ones are!
Role playing 'Little Red Riding Hood'.
Today a fireman came to visit us. We learn't about fire engines, what number to call in an emergency and all about a fireman's uniform. Some of us were lucky enough to try it on!
We are settling in nicely and getting to know our classroom.
Look at how happy we are to be starting Reception!
