Computing and Technology

Computing is the new statutory subject that is taught to primary school children across England - it replaces a subject called ICT.  We are passionate about computing and how technology in its widest sense can engage our children.  As such we have a specialist computing teacher and are a nationally recognised Lead School in the Teaching of Computer Science.
We have a fully equipped computing suite with thirty machines which is used to teach computing as a discrete subject but it also used to engage and support all our curriculum subjects.  As you would expect, all our classrooms have internet and Wi-Fi access and an interactive whiteboard.
Each Junior class also has access to their own set of fifteen iPads, whilst each Infant class has their own set
of five iPads.  These help encourage independence and foster collaborative learning styles.  Additionally our children have access to thirty netbooks in Year 1 & 2, thirty in Year 3 & 4 and thirty in Year 5 & 6.
Our online presence is forever expanding.  We have this amazing website packed full of up to date information.  We are active users of twitter (@lourdes_brent) which helps us to engage our parents and the wider community.
Our children blog and make extensive use of our online learning resources both in school and at home.  Our children think nothing of using our online resources to direct their home learning and our parents are delighted with this “helping hand”.

Keeping our children safe - Online Safety

All our children use online resources with care and consideration for others.  Our children are taught responsible use of online resources, including the internet, social media and email.  They quickly learn how to be responsible when online and where to go to if they need help navigating within an ever changing online world.

What do our children learn in Computing?

Our Computing Zone is the best place to see what the children at our school learn in their computing sessions.
